When you think of premium MPVs, names like the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire probably come to mind. But the Zeekr 009 enters the market with a completely different approach — bold, futuristic and unapologetically luxurious. This isn't a people mover wearing luxury trim. It's a genuine first-class cabin built around the driver's passengers, not the driver.

The flagship variant pairs a 603bhp dual-motor AWD setup with a 116kWh battery delivering 582km of WLTP range. That's a car that can do Kuala Lumpur with headroom. But the performance figures are almost beside the point — it's the cabin that will make you stay.

The 009 doesn't follow traditional MPV styling — it introduces a design language that makes a strong road presence. The front fascia features vertical chrome slabs flanked by sleek claw-like LED headlights. Riding on 20-inch Starlight alloy wheels, this MPV turns heads. Those intricately designed wheels are a weekly cleaning commitment, but they look the part.

Step inside and it becomes immediately clear this is no ordinary MPV. Designed with a "tech-luxury" mindset, the interior feels more like a private jet suite than a family vehicle. Every surface is thoughtfully crafted — soft quilted Nappa leather, first-class loungers for the second row, and a foldable tray table that slides out effortlessly for a laptop or food tray.

The second-row captain chairs are the star of the show. They fully recline with electrically adjustable leg rests, memory positions, full ventilation and massage functions. Sitting behind my partner in the second row while stuck in traffic on the PIE felt genuinely comfortable — relaxed, quiet and cocooned. Controls for each seat are conveniently positioned beside each passenger.

Entertainment is class-leading. A 17-inch OLED smart screen mounted centrally streams YouTube, TikTok and more natively. The 30-speaker Yamaha Surround Sound system — with headrest-integrated speakers in the second row — delivers focused audio without disturbing others. When passengers played YouTube videos, the immersive sound experience was genuinely impressive. The built-in centre console fridge and full-body massage function complete a cabin that transforms every trip into something indulgent. Third-row passengers aren't forgotten either — legroom is generous and USB-C ports are provided at every seat.

From the driver's seat, an ultra-wide AR HUD projects navigation and lane assist directly onto the windscreen. The infotainment is polished — smooth transitions, fast boot-up and intuitive controls. Advanced driver-assist features include adaptive cruise, lane keeping, emergency braking, blind spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera system. Parking something of this size is usually stressful; the 3D surround-view camera removes most of that anxiety.

Despite its size, the Zeekr 009 handles roads with remarkable finesse. A dual-chamber air suspension system works with adaptive dampers to continuously smooth out bumps and imperfections. Even at higher speeds — tested up to 150km/h — the ride remained calm and composed, with minimal wind or road noise intruding into the cabin. Body control through corners was solid, without the floaty or lurching feel typical of tall MPVs.

Range anxiety is not part of the ownership experience. The 116kWh battery delivers up to 582km WLTP, and DC fast charging takes 10 to 80% in around 30 minutes — making the drive to Malaysia comfortably achievable with one stop or less.

After time behind the wheel — and more importantly, time in the back — both myself and my partner were genuinely impressed. The Zeekr 009 doesn't just transport; it transforms how you experience every journey. Comfort and style don't merely coexist here — they elevate each other. The plush, multifunctional second-row seats are the standout feature, but the whole package is remarkably cohesive.

In a market where MPVs are viewed as functional people movers, the 009 redefines what's possible. It's a technological powerhouse and a genuine private-lounge experience on four wheels. If you're chauffeuring clients, road-tripping to KL or ferrying the family in maximum comfort, this MPV makes every journey feel indulgent.
