It carries a confident stance with broad proportions and fluid lines, the front end built around BYD's Ocean Aesthetics design language — smooth, wave-like contours meeting a clean, aerodynamic fascia. Slim LED headlamps stretch neatly across the front, linked by a minimalist grille that hints at the car's electrified identity, while subtle chrome accents around the lower bumper add a touch of sophistication without tipping into excess.

From the side, the long wheelbase and strong shoulder line emphasise length and stability, while a slightly sloping roofline lends a sporty, coupe-like profile. At the rear, a full-width LED light bar ties the design together with a modern touch, and a cleanly sculpted bumper with an integrated diffuser-style panel subtly enhances the sporty look. The overall effect is mature and aerodynamic — more understated than flashy, but clearly well thought-out.

Step inside and the Sealion 6 DM-i immediately feels spacious and inviting. The cabin leans toward practicality and comfort, with a well-laid-out dashboard and a minimalist yet premium look — highlighted by the crystal gear lever, which adds a genuine touch of luxury few cars at this price point bother with. Everything feels thoughtfully positioned, from the switchgear to the central screen controls, and the panoramic sunroof floods the interior with light.

The 15.6-inch infotainment system doesn't try to impress with gimmicks — instead it focuses on simplicity and ease of use, with everything from air-conditioning to the ventilated seats accessible through the main touchscreen. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster takes a little time to adjust to if you want to change layouts, but the learning curve is minor; our team found it straightforward after a few drives.

Both front and rear passengers enjoy generous legroom and headroom, and the front ventilated seats — with two cooling levels — perform well in our local climate. Storage throughout the cabin is plentiful, with large door bins and a deep centre console compartment that swallows smaller items without complaint.

Out on the road, the Sealion 6 DM-i impresses with smooth power delivery and confident acceleration. The hybrid powertrain provides strong torque from a standstill, helping it reach 0–100km/h in around 8.5 seconds. Over four days of driving, we found the steering light enough to make city driving and parking effortless, though some drivers may want more feedback at highway speed. Ride comfort is generally good — slightly bumpy over uneven surfaces, but well-controlled overall, with the softer suspension tune leaning the car a touch more in tighter corners.

What stood out most to our team was the noise insulation. Thanks to BYD's NVH engineering, the cabin stays impressively quiet even at higher speeds — a calm, premium-feeling driving experience that punches above its segment.

Charging is equally practical. The Sealion 6 DM-i supports 7kW AC and 18kW DC rapid charging, with a full 0–100% recharge taking under 3 hours on AC — easy to top up overnight at home or during a shopping trip at a public charger.
