Fun Facts First

CUPRA began life as the performance arm of SEAT before becoming its own standalone brand in 2018. It was created to inject sportiness, emotion, and bold design into everyday driving. The brand's philosophy blends performance with distinctive styling and a driver-focused attitude.

The Terramar is, first and foremost, a design statement. The exterior design is one of its defining strengths, delivering a strong visual identity that immediately separates it from more conventional compact SUVs. It is a car that leans heavily into design-led appeal, combining sharp surfacing with premium detailing.

At the front, the Terramar adopts a purposeful and assertive stance. The angular LED headlights are slim and technical in appearance, framing a sculpted grille that prominently features the signature CUPRA badge in its distinctive rose-gold finish. Large air intakes and crisp bumper lines give the car a performance-oriented look, while subtle creases on the bonnet guide the eye forward, reinforcing a sense of motion even at a standstill.

The side profile is where the Terramar's design maturity becomes most apparent. A gently sloping roofline introduces a coupe-like silhouette, but it is executed with restraint, ensuring that rear headroom remains practical. Strong character lines run along the length of the car, creating tension and depth across the bodywork. A defined shoulder line stretches cleanly from front to rear, while softer sculpting along the lower doors prevents the design from feeling overly rigid.

The proportions are particularly well judged. A relatively long wheelbase combined with short overhangs gives the Terramar a planted, athletic stance. The 19-inch alloy wheels fill the arches confidently, while subtle flaring of the wheel arches enhances its muscular presence. Black cladding along the lower sections adds a touch of SUV ruggedness, though the overall execution remains firmly urban and refined rather than overtly off-road focused.

At the rear, the design becomes even more distinctive. A full-width LED light bar integrates seamlessly with the tail lamps, creating a clean and modern visual signature. The illuminated CUPRA badge sits proudly at the centre, reinforcing brand identity, especially at night. The rear bumper is sculpted with a diffuser-inspired finish, adding a sporty touch without appearing excessive.

Interior, Comfort and Technology

Step inside the CUPRA Terramar and the cabin immediately reflects the exterior's premium and sporty intent. The layout is clean and driver-focused, anchored by a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and complemented by a 10.25-inch digital cockpit. The interface is generally intuitive, though the sliding touch-sensitive volume control may require some adjustment, especially for those accustomed to physical knobs.

Ambient lighting stretches across the dashboard, adding depth and atmosphere to the cabin. It enhances the premium feel and contributes to a more refined driving environment, particularly in low-light conditions.

Material quality is largely impressive, with soft-touch finishes in key contact areas and a well-executed overall fit and finish. That said, some harder plastics are present lower down in the cabin, a reminder of its segment positioning. Ambient lighting across the dashboard enhances the sense of sophistication, particularly at night.

Cabin Comfort?

The Dinamica bucket seats are a standout feature, offering a strong balance between comfort and lateral support. They hold occupants securely during cornering while remaining comfortable for longer journeys, and the inclusion of electric memory adjustment adds to the premium experience. The driving position is well judged, providing both a commanding view of the road and a sense of engagement.

Space is adequate for a compact SUV. Four adults will find good headroom and legroom, making the Terramar suitable for daily commuting and longer trips. However, accommodating a fifth passenger in the rear can feel slightly awkward due to the central transmission tunnel. Practicality is supported by a deep central armrest bin and usable cupholders, although the door bins are somewhat narrow. A 3-zone climate control system further enhances comfort for all occupants.

The Terramar offers 508 litres of boot space, providing a practical and usable cargo area for everyday needs. The shape of the boot makes it easy to load and organise items, whether for grocery runs or weekend trips, and the access is straightforward without awkward compromises.

Driving Experience

Under the bonnet, the CUPRA Terramar is powered by a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid eTSI engine producing 148 bhp and 250 Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This setup prioritises efficiency and smoothness, with cylinder deactivation technology and a refined start-stop system working seamlessly to optimise fuel usage.

On the road, the Terramar delivers a composed and balanced driving experience. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds feels adequate rather than exciting, with a smooth and progressive delivery of power. There is, however, a sense that the car could benefit from more output to fully match its sporty design. Throttle response is measured, and a slight transmission lag can be noticed during more urgent inputs.

Where the Terramar excels is in its handling. The steering is precise and well-weighted, allowing for confident placement through corners. Body roll is well controlled, and the car maintains composure even when pushed, ensuring that passengers are not unsettled during spirited driving. It strikes a commendable balance between comfort and agility, making it suitable for both daily commutes and more engaging drives.

The suspension setup leans towards the firmer side, which contributes to its stability and cornering ability but can result in a slightly bumpy ride at the rear over uneven surfaces. Engaging the CUPRA drive mode via the steering-mounted button sharpens the car's responses and adds a more engaging feel, reinforcing its sporty character. Reverse sensors are notably sensitive, occasionally reacting more eagerly than expected.

Verdict: Who is the Cupra Terramar for?

The CUPRA Terramar is best suited for drivers who prioritise design, premium cabin quality, and composed driving dynamics over outright performance. It stands out in the compact SUV segment with its distinctive styling, modern technology, and balanced road manners.

This is a car for those who want something visually different—an SUV that turns heads while still delivering everyday usability. While it may not offer the thrills of a high-performance model, it succeeds in offering a refined, stylish, and well-rounded driving experience with a clear and confident identity.
