Mini Aceman SE Review
Style, Substance, and Urban Fun Packed In
Editor : Mark K | Cars&TechSG
The Mini Aceman SE isn't just another compact SUV – it's a statement on wheels. With its bold design, tech-savvy features, and surprisingly roomy interior, it's made for city adventures and weekend escapes alike. In this review, we dive into what makes the Aceman SE stand out, from its iconic Mini styling to the driving experience that's as fun as it is practical.

Mini has retained its classic design language but added a modern twist for the Aceman SE. The front fascia features an octagonal grille that commands attention, paired with the brand's signature spherical headlights, which are slightly more angular in this model and packed with LED clusters for a sharper look.

From the side, the Aceman SE immediately shows off its slightly larger footprint compared to the Cooper, giving it a more crossover-ready silhouette while retaining Mini's playful proportions. The short overhangs, high beltline, and gently sloping roofline create a sporty, agile stance. Strong character lines along the doors add visual depth, while the slightly flared wheel arches emphasize a purposeful, athletic feel. The compact dimensions make it easy to navigate tight city streets and HDB carparks, yet it still manages to feel spacious inside.
At the rear, the Aceman SE continues Mini's signature style with a modern twist. The LED taillights retain Mini's iconic Union Jack-inspired graphics, giving the car a unique and instantly recognizable look at night. The tailgate is clean and functional, with subtle contours that complement the overall playful design. A modest rear spoiler adds a sporty touch without being over the top. In our review, we found that the rear design perfectly balances style and practicality, with enough visibility and access for everyday driving while maintaining that unmistakable Mini personality.

Interior Impressions:
Step inside, and you're greeted with a cabin full of personality. The interior favors funky fabrics and playful materials over full leather, giving it a unique, youthful vibe that feels more creative than conventional. Ambient lighting adds a touch of sophistication, though I personally wished it could be a bit brighter to better showcase the cabin's details.
The 9.4-inch circular OLED infotainment screen is classic Mini design, although it does take a bit of time to get used to. The layout is distinctive and fun, but you'll need a short adjustment period to find the controls quickly. Physical buttons are slightly larger than necessary, yet that's not a bad thing – it makes locating what you need intuitive, especially while driving. The key-shaped starter is a quirky touch, though an auto-start on entry feature would have made life easier. The gear toggle switch just below the infotainment screen adds another tactile and fun element to driving.

Seating is comfortable and supportive, capable of fitting five adults without feeling cramped. Rear passengers benefit from the slightly larger footprint compared to the Cooper, offering better legroom and headroom.

The Aceman SE stays true to Mini's compact design, so it's not meant to swallow large luggage. However, during our drives, we found it practical enough to fit a limited amount of bags or groceries comfortably. The tailgate opens wide, making loading and unloading simple, and the flat floor adds convenience for everyday use.
For slightly larger cargo, the rear seats can be folded down to create extra space, but even then, it's best suited for small to medium loads rather than bulky items. Overall, the boot balances Mini's compact city-friendly footprint with just enough practicality for everyday errands.

On Road Performance:
The Aceman SE delivers a lively driving experience that is unmistakably Mini. Acceleration is responsive, and the multiple drive modes – including Go-Kart mode and Green mode – let you tailor the driving experience to your mood. Floor the accelerator, and the playful engine sounds make the ride feel even more engaging, though these can be turned off through the infotainment system if you prefer a quieter drive.
Handling is sharp and confident, perfectly suited for Singapore's urban streets, yet the slightly firm suspension is noticeable on uneven surfaces – bumpy at times but true to the Mini character. The car feels stable and planted through corners, maintaining that signature go-kart feeling, while the overall ride is still comfortable enough for daily commuting or longer drives.
Despite its compact size, this funky ride is really practical. The moderate range of around 380 km during my media drive was sufficient for my four-day Singapore media drive, covering routes from East to North and back. The slightly larger body than the Cooper adds rear passenger space without sacrificing the agility that makes Mini so enjoyable to drive.
Storage is adequate for city life, and the crossover design gives it versatility for weekend getaways, groceries, or everyday errands.

The Bottom Line:
The Mini Aceman SE perfectly balances style, practicality, and fun. It's a city-friendly compact SUV with a go-kart heart, funky interior, and quirky features like the key-shaped starter and circular infotainment. While the suspension may feel firm for some, and the infotainment requires a little learning curve, it's all part of the character that makes the Aceman a true Mini.
For Singapore drivers, the Aceman SE is ideal if you're after a playful yet practical and powerful ride for city streets, with a refined cabin that can comfortably seat five adults, responsive performance, and a fun, stylish package that turns heads. It's a compact SUV with a big personality – just what you'd expect from Mini.
