JAECOO J6 Review
Rugged Design Meets Refined Comfort

Unveiling The Ride
The Jaecoo J6 brings a fresh dimension to the growing field of electric SUVs — combining off-road capability with premium cabin touches and thoughtful practicality. The media test car was the dual-motor variant, and from the moment I stepped in, it was clear this vehicle is built to do more than just look tough.

Visually, the J6 commands attention with its rugged, squared-off silhouette, chunky wheel arches, and high stance. The distinctive front and rear lights — which feature animated lock/unlock sequences accompanied by music — add a layer of personality. It's a fun, eye-catching detail that makes it stand out in the EV crowd
From the side, the J6 continues to impress with a strong shoulder line and upright proportions that reinforce its tough, adventure-ready vibe. The blacked-out pillars and slightly raked roof lend a modern touch, while the pronounced wheel arches and high ground clearance give it real presence on the road.
Additionally, the flush door handles add a sleek, modern touch, enhancing aerodynamic efficiency while maintaining a clean, uncluttered profile.

Interior Impressions:
Step into the cabin and the difference is immediate. The J6 might be designed for rugged adventures, but it doesn't compromise on interior quality. The materials feel premium, the cabin is well-insulated, and it gives off the impression of a car built to last — definitely not a cheap build.
Front passengers are treated to ventilated seats with massage function (though the massage is on the lighter side), and there's even a cooling feature in the central storage console — ideal for keeping drinks chilled on a hot day. The panoramic sunroof adds an airy sense of space, especially when you're cruising in scenic areas.
Interior space is generous despite the boxy silhouette, and rear legroom is surprisingly good, making the J6 suitable for both family duties and weekend getaways.
The J6 features a large 15.6" infotainment display that's crisp and responsive. Most of the car's functions — from drive modes to climate control — are operated through this screen. While tech-savvy users will feel right at home, those who prefer physical buttons may need time to adjust. That said, the interface is intuitive enough to learn quickly, and the screen quality itself is excellent.

The Jaecoo J6 offers a boot capacity of 450 litres, making it a practical option for everyday use—whether you're loading groceries, luggage, or gear for a weekend trip. While it may not lead the segment in outright volume, the space is well-shaped and functional, providing easy access and usability.
Around the back, you'll find one of my favourite touches: a rear-mounted external storage box. Well, you do not really see this commonly. This is perfect for storing muddy gear or tools after a trail adventure — something most urban-focused EVs overlook. It's details like this that show Jaecoo is thinking beyond the pavement.
Overall, the J6 balances style and practicality well, with thoughtful storage touches that suit both urban and family needs.

On Road Performance:
One of the first standout features is the 9 available drive modes — more than most vehicles in the same class. These modes aren't just a gimmick; they give the J6 versatility whether you're heading off-road or navigating slick urban roads. The dual-motor setup ensures instantaneous acceleration, providing a confident surge of power when needed, especially useful on rugged terrains or quick overtakes in city driving. I could perform overtaking and staying ahead of others with ease!
Ride comfort is surprisingly refined for something that looks so boxy. Bump absorption is excellent, and there's a good sense of road feedback without compromising comfort. While it's clearly tuned with some off-road intention, the on-road manners are solid. Body roll is minimal, and cornering stays within an acceptable range for a taller vehicle. Handling is intuitive and responsive, adding to the driver's confidence.
During my media test, the range hovered around 300 km, which might not be enough for some due to the car battery's capacity and could be a limiting factor for longer expeditions unless DC charging infrastructure is readily available.

The Bottom Line:
The Jaecoo J6 isn't just another EV SUV. It strikes a compelling balance between rugged adventure-readiness and refined on-road comfort, all while bringing useful features like multiple drive modes, a functional external storage box, and high-end cabin amenities.
It's a great option for those who want more than just an urban crossover — people who value versatility, space, and some actual off-road capability, all packaged in a uniquely styled EV.
Yes, the 300 km range might be a limiting factor for some, but if your lifestyle revolves around weekend explorations and daily commutes, the Jaecoo J6 delivers a well-rounded and satisfying experience.
