Fun Facts First

IM? What's that? IM stands for Intelligence in Motion, a name that reflects the brand's focus on intelligent mobility, advanced software integration, and forward-thinking electric vehicle design. The marque is formed as a joint venture forged by three visionary pillars: SAIC Motor, one of the world's largest automotive groups; Alibaba, a global leader in digital technology and cloud computing; and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech, a major innovation and research hub.

Complementing this foundation, IM is partnered with Eurokars Group, a well-established automotive group known for representing premium and luxury marques. This partnership strengthens IM's positioning by combining advanced electric vehicle technology with deep market expertise and a premium ownership ecosystem.

Together, these collaborations bring automotive engineering, digital intelligence, and refined brand stewardship into a single offering, positioning IM as a premium electric brand built around software-driven innovation, performance, and modern luxury.

With that foundation in place, we take a closer look at how the IM6 electric SUV performs on the road. In this review, the focus is on the Performance variant, where IM's blend of technology, design, and refinement comes together in a compelling and distinctly modern package.

The IM6 strikes a strong visual balance between athleticism and luxury. Its exterior design is really refined stylish, clean and modern, with smooth surfaces and carefully sculpted lines that give the SUV a sleek, upmarket appearance. Rather than relying on aggressive styling, the IM6 adopts a more refined approach that feels premium and contemporary.

A defining feature is the sloping roofline, which tapers elegantly towards the rear, mimicking the proportions of a coupe while retaining the practicality of an SUV. This coupe-inspired silhouette gives the IM6 a dynamic stance and helps it stand out from more upright, conventional rivals, without compromising rear headroom thanks to intelligent packaging.

Flush detailing and clean body surfaces contribute to aerodynamic efficiency, while subtle sporty cues ensure the IM6 looks purposeful from every angle. The result is an SUV that feels sleek and elegant, yet unmistakably modern.

Interior Impressions

Step inside and the IM6 impresses with a spacious, premium cabin that feels thoughtfully designed. High-quality materials are used throughout, and the inclusion of double-glazed glass significantly enhances cabin refinement. On the move, the IM6 proves itself to be impressively quiet, even at higher speeds, reinforcing its luxury credentials.

A large panoramic sunroof allows natural light to flood the cabin, enhancing the sense of space and openness. Seating comfort is excellent, with ventilated seats that also feature a mild massage function — subtle, but welcome on longer journeys.

Climate control is handled by a smart air-conditioning system that allows airflow to be directed in cabin mode, occupant-focused mode, or fully customised according to personal preference. This level of control reflects the IM6's technology-first approach.

One small critique lies with the rear-view mirror. While its compact design is aesthetically pleasing, it does feel slightly undersized, and a wider mirror would improve rearward visibility.

A unique element of the IM6 experience is the IM Mag Hub, which is built in for owner convenience and versatility. Rather than being a driving dynamics feature, it expands the vehicle's multi-functional and multi-scenario applications. The magnetic attachment system allows the IM6 to transform into a variety of usable spaces — from campsites and private dressing rooms to a mobile study. This element introduces a sense of playfulness and encourages co-creation, allowing owners to personalise and expand how they use the vehicle beyond traditional driving scenarios.

Convenience is further elevated with Powered Released Doors, adding a premium touch while making access easier.

Technology is a defining pillar of the IM6. The vehicle is exceptionally tech-savvy, with an advanced suite of intelligent systems that extend well beyond novelty.

The iAD one-touch self-parking system allows the IM6 to autonomously perform parking, pull-out, reversing, and curbside parking manoeuvres with a single command, and works smoothly in real-world use.

Crab mode further enhances manoeuvrability by enabling diagonal movement at low speeds, particularly useful in tight spaces.

Even smaller details feel thoughtfully integrated, such as the turn signal sound being played through the vehicle's speakers to maintain clarity regardless of cabin conditions.

Cabin Comfort?

Rear passenger comfort has not been overlooked. Rear legroom is generous, comfortably accommodating adults without compromise, while headroom remains ample even for taller passengers — an impressive achievement given the coupe-like roofline. The rear seats are well cushioned with a natural seating angle, avoiding the knees-up posture found in some electric SUVs. Combined with the smooth ride provided by the active air suspension (only in performance variant) and the quiet cabin environment, rear-seat comfort feels genuinely premium rather than secondary.

Practicality is another area where the IM6 performs strongly. The boot offers a generous 646 litres of cargo capacity, easily accommodating large suitcases, strollers, or bulky lifestyle gear. Just as importantly, the loading height is low and the boot opening wide, making it genuinely easy to load and unload heavier items — a detail that will be appreciated in daily use rather than just on paper.

On Road Performance:

The Performance variant tested produces a remarkable 572 kW (767 bhp) and 802 Nm of torque, propelling the IM6 from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.48 seconds. Acceleration is immediate and forceful, yet remains smooth and controlled, reinforcing the IM6's premium performance credentials.

Ride comfort and dynamic control are areas where the IM6 feels particularly well engineered, especially in the Performance variant, which is exclusively equipped with Active Air Suspension. This system continuously adapts ride height and damping based on speed and road conditions, delivering a supple, composed ride in everyday driving while maintaining firmness and control when the pace increases. Despite the IM6's substantial performance output, body roll is impressively well suppressed, giving the SUV a planted and confidence-inspiring feel through corners.

Steering response is sharp and well weighted, allowing the IM6 to feel agile and predictable even on tighter roads. Combined with the tight turning radius, the vehicle remains easy to place and manoeuvre, whether in urban environments or on faster roads.

Refinement is further enhanced through Road Noise Control, which works in tandem with the double-glazed glass to reduce tyre and road noise. On coarse road surfaces, the cabin remains notably calm, reinforcing the IM6's premium long-distance cruising credentials.

Aerodynamic efficiency also plays a role in ride quality and efficiency. The Active Grille Shutter automatically regulates airflow depending on cooling demands, reducing drag at cruising speeds while optimising thermal performance when required. This contributes to both improved efficiency and reduced wind noise.

The Performance variant features a 100 kWh battery with an estimated real-world range of around 500 km.

Charging is supported by 800 V electric drive technology, allowing DC fast charging of up to 396 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in as little as 18 minutes under optimal conditions.

The Bottom Line:

The IM6 is a well-executed electric SUV that blends striking design, advanced technology, impressive performance, and genuine everyday usability. Its coupe-inspired exterior gives it strong visual appeal, while the interior delivers comfort and refinement without compromise.

With only minor shortcomings, the IM6 positions itself as a compelling choice for buyers seeking a premium electric SUV that looks as good as it drives — modern, intelligent, and confidently future-ready.
