Introduction

The 2025 Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid arrives as a meaningful evolution of the outgoing model, bringing improvements in hybrid performance, refinement, safety technology, and styling. Compared with its predecessor, this updated Forester features a stronger dual-motor hybrid system replacing the earlier mild-hybrid setup, enhanced chassis NVH for a quieter cabin, an upgraded EyeSight 4.0 suite with wider detection capabilities, and a refreshed exterior design that includes new LED headlights, grille, and wheel options.

Exterior Impression

From the outside, we realise that the 2025 Forester e-Boxer Hybrid appears more refined and substantial than its predecessor. In this aspect, Subaru has carefully evolved the design rather than reinventing it, introducing a more prominent front grille, sharper C-shaped LED headlights, and updated 19-inch wheels that give the SUV a more purposeful and contemporary presence. The embossed FORESTER insignia at the rear adds a modern and premium touch that feels more intentional than the chrome badging of old.

The latest generation has grown modestly in overall length—reflecting updated bumpers and exterior trim—without altering the wheelbase significantly. This subtle length increase enhances road presence and contributes to the more substantial visual proportions, but without making the vehicle unwieldy in urban driving or parking situations

The C-shaped LED headlights not only improve night-time visibility but also integrate seamlessly into the front fascia, tying together the grille and front bumper in a way that feels cohesive and contemporary. Combined with thoughtfully sculpted panels and balanced proportions, the Forester's exterior strikes a good balance between rugged utility and everyday refinement.

Inside, the Forester maintains Subaru's reputation for durability and functionality. The cabin feels solidly constructed, with materials that prioritise practicality while still conveying a sense of quality. Controls are logically placed, and the overall layout is designed to minimise distraction.

Adding to the cabin's sense of openness is the panoramic sunroof, which brings in ample natural light and enhances the perception of space for both front and rear passengers. It elevates the overall ambience of the interior, making the Forester feel airier and more premium.

Cabin refinement has also been improved over the previous generation, thanks to enhanced NVH measures that provide a quieter and more composed ride. The 10-way powered leather seats with lumbar support and memory functions offer strong comfort and adjustability, making long journeys easy to manage.

Overall, the interior strikes a balance between practicality, comfort, and intuitive usability, supporting the Forester's positioning as a dependable and family-friendly SUV.

A key highlight is the large 11.6-inch portrait-oriented infotainment display, which serves as the central hub for navigation, media, and vehicle settings. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, offering convenience and seamless connectivity. While the screen size is generous and visibility is good, the operating system itself would benefit from a more modern interface design to fully match the hardware's potential.

One of the Forester's longstanding strengths is interior space, and this new version continues this tradition. Both front and rear occupants enjoy generous headroom and legroom, making the SUV suitable for family use and extended journeys. Some rear passengers noted that the seats feel a little firmer and may transmit slight bumps, though this largely comes down to individual preference.

With a 484-litre boot, the Forester offers ample cargo room complemented by a nearly flat load floor that simplifies packing. The powered tailgate comes with a kick sensor, which performed with impressive consistency during our tests. The inclusion of a factory subwoofer in the boot adds a pleasant audio upgrade without sacrificing practicality.

On Road Performance:

On the move, the Forester demonstrates a well-rounded and secure road presence. The hybrid system, which uses two electric motors, delivers stronger performance than the previous mild-hybrid configuration. EV-only operation at low speeds is smooth and extremely quiet, and transitions between electric and engine power are seamless.

Acceleration in city traffic requires a firm push on the throttle, though switching to Sport (S) mode noticeably sharpens response and leverages the electric motors' instant torque for quicker pickup. Highway cruising is confident, and Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive adjusts power in real time to maintain traction and stability.

Brake response initially feels assertive, typical of hybrid systems, but becomes more natural once the driver adapts. Body roll is well managed, and steering response remains precise, giving the Forester a composed feel through corners.

The enhanced EyeSight 4.0 driver-assistance system is a highlight. With an added wide-angle camera, improved pedestrian/cyclist detection, an emergency driving stop function, and a 360-degree multi-view monitor, the suite works consistently and proactively. Drivers who prefer fewer alerts may find it attentive, but its role in enhancing safety is clear.

One minor limitation is the AUTO Vehicle Hold feature, which cannot be permanently enabled and resets upon restart. Additionally, the EV Mode button often displays "not ready," meaning the system prefers to decide on its own when EV-only driving is suitable. For most users, this will not interrupt the overall driving experience.

The Bottom Line:

The 2025 Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid is a thoughtfully improved SUV that balances practicality, safety, and hybrid efficiency. Its refreshed exterior, enhanced driver-assistance features, and stronger hybrid performance make it a compelling choice for buyers seeking a dependable and versatile crossover.

While the infotainment interface could feel more contemporary and the throttle response in standard mode may not satisfy drivers who prefer brisk city acceleration, these are relatively modest considerations within an otherwise well-executed package.

Overall, the Forester e-Boxer Hybrid stands out with its solid build quality, spacious interior, refined ride, and confidence-inspiring AWD system. Subaru has made meaningful upgrades that elevate this model without losing the core qualities that long-time Forester owners appreciate.
