DEEPAL S07 Review
Design language in motion that speaks fluent future ⚡🚗

You might be asking, what exactly is Deepal? Fair question — it's a relatively new name in the EV space. Deepal is a dedicated electric sub-brand under Changan Auto, one of China's biggest automakers. And with the S07, they've launched a sleek, tech-forward coupe SUV aimed at buyers who want more than just another electric car.
Unveiling the Ride
From the moment I approached the Deepal S07, the front end immediately grabbed my attention. It's bold, dramatic, and seriously sharp. I simply admire the front styling. The ultra-slim LED star petal-shaped DRLs gives the SUV an aggressive stance even before it moves. The main headlamps are integrated near the bumper, framed by deep cuts and functional-looking air inlets that add depth and purpose to the face. The bonnet has precise, angular creases that emphasise the car's width and give it that show-car edge.
As I walked along the side, I appreciated how well the coupe-SUV proportions were executed. The sloping roofline feels athletic without compromising rear headroom, and the blacked-out pillars give it a floating roof effect that enhances its sleekness. The flush door handles, crisp shoulder line, and turbine-style aero wheels work together to create a clean, premium look that genuinely surprised me for a first-time model.
At the rear, the styling stays consistent with the rest of the car—minimalist, sharp, and confidently futuristic. The full-width light bar ties the tail together and lights up with a distinctive signature. There's a nice sculpted quality to the tailgate, and it avoids unnecessary visual clutter. It's clean without feeling empty, and looks properly sorted when following it on the road, together with the rear spoiler, increasing the level of sportiness.

Interior Impressions:
Step inside and the marine influence is clear. The interior design is inspired by luxury yachts, and it feels the part. Soft-touch materials, clean surfaces, and floating panels contribute to a cabin that punches above its weight class. The seats are supremely comfortable, offering good support and even massage functions in front. Rear passengers get ample legroom, and everyone benefits from the bright, open feel thanks to a panoramic sunroof that runs the length of the roof.
The S07 doesn't just look futuristic—it feels it too. Taking center stage is a next-level AR Head-Up Display that projects navigation prompts, current speed, and even remaining range directly into your line of sight, complete with animated overlays. You can use this as your main speedo, allowing for a cleaner dashboard view.
Gesture controls are available for selected functions, and the main infotainment screen is responsive, well-organized, and features "Season Mode"—a playful touch that displays a fireplace or snowfall depending on climate settings. Quirky? Maybe. Memorable? Definitely.
Although there could be more shortcut buttons for some essential controls such as the side mirror adjustments, wiper controls, else overall, the interior is a comfortable and premium cabin to be in.

The infotainment screen is a standout 15.6-inch high-definition floating touchscreen known as the "Sunflower Touchscreen." One of its most unique features is its ability to rotate 15 degrees to the left or right, allowing the display to face either the driver or the front passenger for optimal viewing and interaction. This rotating function is designed to enhance comfort and accessibility on the move.
Beyond its design, the system is a comprehensive control hub for the vehicle, managing navigation, media, climate control, and smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes intelligent gesture control for hands-free interactions—such as adjusting volume, answering calls, or taking photos—as well as a natural language voice assistant for added convenience.
Another unique feature "Season Mode"—a playful touch that displays a fireplace or snowfall depending on climate settings. Quirky? Maybe. Memorable? Definitely.
I tested the voice commands and notice there's a little delay before the system responds back to you and the voice sounded a bit macho, though by reducing the volume, it will sound better.
Powering all of this is the high-performance Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, which ensures smooth operation and supports advanced features like augmented reality navigation. Altogether, the system blends cutting-edge tech with user-focused functionality, offering a premium and intuitive in-car experience.

Adding to the airy and spacious feel, the Panoramic Glass Roof brings in natural light and offers stunning views — perfect for those scenic drives or simply enjoying the sky above. In the rear, legroom and headroom are sufficient for 3 adults, together with the ability to control the rear aircon temperature, your passengers will enjoy the ride in comfort and class.
Storage concerns? That should be worry-free, smaller items can be kept at the frunk which can hold up to 125L and get on your trips for grocery shopping or to our neighboring country by storing your necessities and luggage at the boot which can hold up to 445L.

On Road Performance:
Getting behind the wheel of the Deepal S07 was a surprisingly relaxing experience. The moment I set off, I noticed how well the cabin insulated me from the outside world—road and wind noise are impressively muted, even at higher speeds. It gives off a very refined, almost luxury-like EV feel, and that sets the tone for the entire drive.
The steering is light and easy to manage, especially in tighter city spaces. It's great for daily commutes or navigating multi-storey carparks, but it does lean more toward comfort than engagement. At higher speeds, I wished it had a bit more weight and feedback—just to give me more confidence during spirited cornering. That said, it's still accurate enough for everyday use.
Ride comfort is where the S07 shines. The suspension is tuned to soak up small bumps with ease, keeping the cabin composed over small uneven roads. Even my rear passengers were quick to point out how smooth and comfortable everything felt. Handling is stable and planted, with good cornering control for a car of this size. The turning radius also deserves a mention—it's surprisingly tight for a coupe-style SUV.
Performance-wise, the acceleration is smooth but not aggressive. There's a tiny delay when you first press the throttle—it takes just that bit more input before the motor responds fully. It's not sluggish, but if you're used to the instant punch of some other EVs, you'll feel the difference. The Deepal is clearly tuned for a peaceful, progressive drive rather than back-to-the-seat launches.
One highlight is the regenerative braking. It's one of the more well-tuned and smoother than what I've experienced in many other EVs. It blends nicely with the friction brakes and doesn't jolt you around, which made for a more natural and confident drive.
Overall, the Deepal S07 delivers a calm, comfortable ride with enough control to keep things composed—but there's room to sharpen the response and steering feel, especially for drivers who enjoy a bit more involvement behind the wheel.

The Bottom Line:
The Deepal S07 is a standout in the comfort-first EV segment, offering a sleek yet agressive design, refined, luxurious ride paired with a generous helping of advanced tech and safety features. Whether you're tackling the daily grind or heading out on a long-haul road trip, it makes every journey feel effortless. The cabin is one of the most well-appointed I've experienced in this category, complete with massage, ventilated seats and a yacht-inspired interior design. If you value quiet sophistication and modern innovation, the S07 is a smart, forward-thinking choice.
